Why are so many wealthy celebs endorsing Obama?

celebs
Baby James asked:

There is this notion that the rich support McCain in order to protect private propery and free market. For example: the wealthier class wants to secure their earnings and their business profits through tax breaks and deregulation.

So, why is it that wealthy celebrities chose to endorse Obama?
Similarily, why is California predominantley a Democratic state?

Is it a publicity move?
Or are celebrities a more liberal class of the wealthy?

JayPetey December 10, 2008 at 7:09 am

It’s popular to support Obama.

Mooshy December 11, 2008 at 4:39 pm

Because Republicans aren’t “cool” in Hollywood.

There are rich Republicans and equally rich Democrats. The difference is the Republicans are greedy and don’t want to pay their fair share of taxes.

They would rather the government just borrow the money it needs from China, running up the national debt to $10,000,000,000,000 and leave the tab for the next generation’s middle class.

Oh, the Republicans support Israel. They support it to the tune of $30 million dollars a day. And the Republicans support the war in Iraq to the tune of $198 million dollars a day. But why actually pay for it when the Federal Reserve can just print more money?

PigMcCain it's all the same December 18, 2008 at 7:54 pm

sounds like they actually have a heart for the working people and are not greedy like most or all PUBES……….

danrathersdrunkagain December 19, 2008 at 4:51 pm

Yes, they’re a more liberal class, have tons of money and the best CPAs to shelter it. The very rich don’t get scrunched. The working class ‘wealthy’ take the hit.

It is called understanding of problems in society. Rather than holing up with your money, you want to help fix problems.

That is why people like Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, and others are the largest contributes to charity..and support a plant that helps the people struggling to get by.

Moose December 20, 2008 at 7:10 pm

Because they live in fantasy land and are totally out of touch with main stream average people.

amemahoney December 23, 2008 at 5:08 am

I’ve noticed a huge trend the past decade for wealthy celebrities to endorse Democrats. Some have come from nothing and worked very hard to get to where they are. A few have commented that they make so many millions of dollars that they feel blessed and can afford to pay a little more in taxes.

Many more have gotten into a lot of Humanitarian efforts. Whether that’s just public image or they really care, who knows for some of them? I just wish they’d concentrate their efforts in the US instead of flying all over the world to help poor people or adopt children. We have lots of issues here that would benefit.

Honestly, I’m impressed and pretty surprised. But I think a lot of them just secretly **** George Bush and think he should be impeached for lying to Congress in order to go to war in Iraq. Maybe they’re just sick of the same old, same old.

Celebrities are more liberal and they tend to come from humble beginnings so the idea of being fair and decent and keeping the country balanced is good for everyone.

The bigger the divide, the more dangerous life gets.

kitty fresh & hissin' crew December 29, 2008 at 3:04 am

Because they inwardly want to influence. That’s how they get paid, by being popular. Doesn’t matter if its right or not.

princess1981t20 December 31, 2008 at 4:20 am

Liberal. Hollywood is considered to be at least 80% liberal. I live in Cali. and I am a McCain supporter, but I am not a Repub. and it does irritate me that they give this state away to whoever is a Dem. before the polls are closed.

suzmarda January 1, 2009 at 1:03 pm

Why are there so many wealthy people endorsing McCain? LOL

Uhmm because they support his policies…

So many Nashville stars but uhmmm are you saying honestly that no wealthy people support McCain…

~~~sigh~~~ next question….
musiclover January 3, 2009 at 11:36 am
answer to first question
because most celebrities are rightly put off by the religious right
here is the answer to your second question
yes,most celebrities are more liberal, however ther are tons of conservative celebrities too
vistal1 January 4, 2009 at 9:58 am
Hes the right choice . If you vote for Mcain your voting for a old P.O.S who cant keep a 20 min interview straight. A old Jerk who tell people babies need hot water cus they are thirsty. A man whos out of touch with everything and still thinks we are at war with the Indians. Well he may even be that old to remember.
Vote or Cry January 5, 2009 at 5:44 pm
They are willing to give their money away unlike some other greedy folks out there. I am also from California and I am glad that Democrats are a majority here.
Royal January 8, 2009 at 9:45 am
most of hollywood is very liberal and the celebrities dont care at all about business or the average citizen the truly rich (A-list celebs) will be fine during a recession. people like ford carnegie an rockefeller all did fine during the great depression
Cam January 11, 2009 at 1:07 am
Because it makes them feel better about being so grossly overpaid for what they do. Celebrities are spoiled and pampered and would never have to worry about a cosmetic surgery bill let alone paying for a serious/expensive illness. They do not live in the real world and it’s convenient for them to be self-proclaimed humanitarians.
Hollywood actors make their money living fantasy lives and pretending to be other people. It’s not really hard work and they make obscene amounts of money for it. They’re usually surrounded by people who worship them and “yes men”. Eventually their perception of reality becomes distorted, and they begin to believe their own bullshit. They have a great deal of guilt because of making so much money for what technically amounts to doing nothing, so they absolve some of that guilt by supporting candidates who say they want to help the poor. They don’t actually give any money to the poor, but supporting someone who says they care about the poor makes them feel good.
Eventually this becomes a herd mentality, and they start to believe that they’re actually important and their opinions matter. So they pick up other pet causes, like “global warming” or “spaying and neutering your pets”. This makes them feel REALLY good. Soon they’ve all amassed a nice little collection of pet projects and hobbies like adopting babies from other countries and supporting abortion in this country. Those adopted children will grow up in their fantasy world, until they’re about 12 or 13, when the harsh reality of drug addiction and alcoholism sets in. By then their hippy parents have moved on to a new collection of african babies and environmental causes, and have no time for their “so yesterday” adopted trophies. So in their guilt, they latch on to the current hip democratic politician and throw him lots of money, campaign for him, then go back to ignoring their own family members and telling the rest of us how much we should care.
