I often see that magazines often mention on the cover something about anorexic celebrities. There’s always a pictures of some actress at an angle that makes them look thin and next to it are the words “TOO SKINNY?”

What is up with that? Why does it make people pick up the mags, because I’m sure it does or they wouldn’t use it on the cover. It’s like a really big topic!

Celebs are there like freaks in a freak show. We are obsessed with them because they are so objectified they are not real to us, also many want that lifestyle. The media has a big part to play in the role of eating disorders and there is so much research showing a correlation between media and eating disorder symptomatology. One minute they are being praised for loosing weight quickly, the called anorexic, then if they do gain they are called fat!! It didn’t use to be like this, there is even research showing the waist measurements of glamour models posing for mags such as play boy have decreased a lot over the years in a steady decline. I personally don’t read those mags now, not when every other page has a diet and loose weight articles, why can’t they just promote a healthy body image??
I agree, it’s infuriating..
We are taught to believe that everyone is different in their own way and to happy with ourselves no matter what, yet these mags are constantly
judging every celebrity.
even older ones that really deserve to be left alone to enjoy life (Jerry hall etc…)
What I really **** is when they have celebs in bikinis or eating something and they call them chubby, overweight, porky etc
A pic recently of Kate moss with a “big gut” as they put it. I’ve had bigger bellies after eating a sandwich !
I could go on as this subject really bugs me..
I **** to say this but… A lot of people look at these women with disgust! They are young, rich, and have a lot of influence on young girls. If I had a daughter I would not want her to grow up looking up to these women who are not eating, and strung out on all these drugs as a positive! They only see the picture, not the person. So they strive to look like these women look, and a lot of young girls die because of it. It is not healthy to be that thin, no matter what “diet” plan your on.
So the media picks up on this, and blast it out for all to see. I hope the reason for that is to show these women are not what our young girls should look like. They are not healthy, and they are causing a lot of problems for our teen girls/young adults. So many teens I have talked to say they would rather be super skinny like the celebs, than to live at all. They have said they don’t care if it will kill them, they just want to be that skinny! So maybe if the media exposes this, it could save someones life!
because unhealthy as it is many of those interested in such celebs either have or have had some type of eating disorder, stuggle with eating issues, struggle with body image, or have an inner desire to be like these celebs
much of this is due to …the media… societal pressure… the ‘feminine ideal’ and so forth
