Ebony H asked: If you think what Etta James said about Beyonce was uncalled for. I’m posting this where ever I can. Please help me post this. :”Etta grow up, and stop being jealous.” Label it Ebony D. along with your name of course. I want this to be heard and maybe Etta James will hear this as well. Please help. Thank you.

Its not even about Beyonce its the fact that she was jealous that she didn’t get “the song she’s been singing for years” at the inaugural ball. It really had nothing to do with Beyonce. Its sad that a 71 year old woman whom I had great respect for could even act in such a childish manner.

I agree, totally. I am really surprised at her for the rant!! I would expect so much more out of her. I am not a super Beyonce fan but that was really uncalled for. Sounds like a whole lot of jealousy. Quite frankly I did not even know she was still alive. Then to disrespect the president… shame on you!!!
I think it is inappropriate for Etta James to express herself in such an undignified and childish manner. Beyonce was one of the brightest and most beautiful moments with her singing of At Last for that 1st dance. The pure joy, loving expression of Beyonce’s singing was really a gift to all of us blessed to see and hear what to me was a precious moment. How sad that Etta James cant share in that moment looking at the generations of gifted singers that continue to touch our lives with wonder.
Nope
I agree with Etta James.
January 20th was a very important day for everyone and for her to say what she did about President Obama and Beyonce was in poor taste.
I’ll say it again.
Nobody can sing “At Last” like Etta James. Beyonce does not come close. Etta James is a legend musically speaking.
Singers used to have more class and humility than Beyonce (at least what they portrayed)
Etta James has other known great songs like “Tell Mama”
“Something’s Gotta Hold On Me” “My Dearest Darling” and the vocals are top notch.
I guess she has a right to think it, but saying it in public is petty. I thought Beyonce was honoring her, and not trying to say how much better she was than her.
I did not even know who was Etta James. Give her a break. She is a senile who feel like she would have been invited to the inauguration. You guys know how some elderly people act.
Peace
It was innappropriate and she wasn’t the first to sing that song.
Hey, it wasn’t the most polite way to address her disappointment but I was asking myself: where the heck is Etta?, when Beyonce was singing that song. I hear that Beyonce begged and pleaded to be put on the schedule to sing at the inaugural event. Well, she sang at the concert on Sunday, so why did she have to sing at the ball? I mean, you can sing but did you have to sing ETTA’S SIGNATURE SONG? Given that she’s in her 70s and this is a historical moment that she was able to live to sing, why not let her sing it? Beyonce had a place at the event but I think it should have been Etta singing Etta’s song.
Etta James appologized but I wish she hadn’t. I think “The Great Beyonce” deserved it. Etta is the Greatest and Beyonce sounds like every soul/R and B singer out there with no origional sound. She is talented but you need to Talk to Etta before you can sing her songs. Etta said this was a joke towards her, but you need to understand that Etta worked hard for where she is . Beyonce has not worked so hard. And you know that they didnt have any type of friendship. There is something personal between them probably for her Beyonces potrayal of Etta. Etta has got BALLS, Beyonce just a tight dress and a love for Popeyes fried chicken. Yawn spare me.
If this is true, I am very surprised at Etta James’ behavior. Though I am not a Beyonce fan but I thought she was honoring Etta. I would have thought that Etta would have been proud that a young woman would honor her in such a way.
i thought it was completely uncalled for. Beyonce has said nothing but nice things about Etta James and then Etta comes out of nowhere saying all these things about her, it was so unnecessary. i think it was mostly jealousy.
and she doesn’t make sense in a lot of the stuff she says. like…
1. she says that it was her song. no, it’s not her song. she did a cover of it. it’s originally from Glenn Miller. u didn’t see him complaining that she stole his song.
2. she’s mad that Barack Obama asked her to sing it. Why would Barack ask Etta to sing it when she hasn’t supported him at all through this whole thing. she even says that it’s “your president, not mine”.
i thought she was being so rude and unfair about it. and she didn’t even apologize. she just said that she was “joking” and “wasn’t being serious”. she coulda at least said sorry for it. Beyonce didn’t deserve that.
If Etta James made those comments about President Obama, she didn’t deserve to be invited to the Inauguration. As for the comment about Beyonce, it was uncalled for. There are women far younger than Etta in showbiz that would love to kick another artist’s behind but wouldn’t dare to say it publicly.
It was refreshing to see Beyonce standing in ONE spot, dressed appropriately, totally uninterested in herself, and serenading the President and First Lady with so much class. I thought that it was her best performance as far as the ones that I’ve seen. I also prefer it over the Etta James version. And apparently so did Etta.
This just goes to show that some people just can’t let go of the bottle.
I agree.
I’m not a Beyonce fan at all – she’s not my style, or my age either. But I thought that she did a lovely job on the song. Besides, she sang at the request of our new president, so actually Ms. James was criticizing the president, not Beyonce. Ms. James absolutly should have had more class.
